PLACES TO GO

Of course there's a lot to see in the town of Bansko itself, with around 120 cultural and historical monuments will have a lot to explore. Various souvenir shops offer the creations of the local Bansko artists and smiths.

Bansko is known to be a unique site with international significance for international tourism. As well as the beautiful Pirin Mountain the town possesses rich historical sites. Remains from ancient fortresses in the Staroto Gradishte site, are situated just four kilometres to the west and the Ulen site runs alongside the Demianitsa river flow. Nearby the Staroto Gradishte site there are Thracian mound hills.

Situated South of Bansko is the National Park Pirin included in the UNESCO list for cultural and natural sightseeing. The park is rich with its lakes, waterfalls, caves, venerable trees and historical sites. Bansko together with Dobrinishte are also famous for their mineral springs, the reserve Bayovi dupki- Djindjiritsa. Also recommended is a visit to the famous Rila Monastery and the busy city of Sofia.

During Summer

Bansko and the surrounding area offers a huge range of outdoor pursuits during the summer months, including: golf, walking, hiking and trekking, horse riding, swimming ,white water kayaking, climbing, fishing, cycling, sightseeing to the nearby monasteries and historic sites, shopping in the market and old town of Bansko or simply enjoying the gastronomic delights and culture of the town’s many tavernas.

During Winter

Bansko is Bulgaria's number one ski resort, having the best and most modern ski centre of all Bulgarian ski resorts. During the recent years a multi-million Euros investment in a brand new skiing area has been made by Yulen, the company which has the licence to run the skiing area of the resort. Bansko has the best snow record and the longest ski season (15 Dec - 15 April) of all Bulgarian ski resorts

Bansko is the newest and fastest developing ski resort in Bulgaria. Unlike Borovets and Pamporovo, it has managed to combine the latest technological developments with the authentic atmosphere of a Bulgarian village. It has the qualities of a unique settlement with a large number of cultural monuments and traditional architecture. Bansko welcomes around 450,000 people every year but with the speedy development of the resort, the construction of new hotels, and the growing number of services offered to tourists the number of visitors is said to triple in the next couple of years.

International Jazz Festival

Under the snow-capped peak of Mount Vihren, the ski resort of Bansko extends its holiday season into the summer with the help of its well established jazz festival. The objectives at Bansko are to give aspiring Bulgarian musicians a stage alongside German, American and other foreign artists, and to lay out a festival that welcomes, as they say, "the free people". The first festival was held in 1998 and Bansko has been winning new friends each year ever since. The format includes events on the main stage in the middle of town and informal jazz cafe sessions and jamming at local hotels and venues
